Another graphic assignment

Warning Short blog

You know I am starting to think that short blogs have been coming up more because the holidays are coming up and it's just mostly relax time. Today in ICS, we just talked about the bouncing ball assignment Mr.Arkin asked us to work on yesterday. A lot of people were unable to accomplish creating the program so he gave us some more time to both complete and perfect them. I was able to actually make my program very nice. I am happy! Near the end of the class, Mr.Arkin showed us a new program where a rectangle (I think it blinks) moves around the outside of the window. There were many modifications that Mr.Arkin made that made it even cooler. Mr.Arkin again asked us to write a program for this. I am trying but not succeeding! I hope to at least try to finish half. For homework, Mr.Arkin asked us to complete the bouncing ball and if we are done to do the next program. I hope I can finish it tonight. Let's hope!

Test review

We got our tests back today and I did not do as well as I thought I would. I found that the test was fairly easy but when Mr.Arkin was taking up the test today, it was all so different than what I expected. I actually did not fail luckily but I did get a bad mark below 70. I could tell I would do bad when Mr.Arkin was taking it up.

Mr.Arkin handed us each a copy of the test and asked us to answer them and then Mr.Arkin took it up as a class. We each took turns to answer and Mr.Arkin also showed us his model answers. I was surprised to see many mistakes I made. I am hoping that everything else I have done will upgrade my mark so that it is at least a high 70%. I am going to study my butt off for the exam and work very hard for the culminating activity to boost my mark. We also learned a little about "Don't argue with parameters" and "Creating executable". It was actually really cool because now we can send it to any of our friends and let them have some fun. Mr.Arkin showed us a program today which was really cool where the user enters a character and the program repeats this character and bounces it off. I thought that it was just going to be a model of what we could do for our culminating activity but then he asked us to make the program ourselves. I was surprised! I have no idea how to do it. I am not even close! I now have an idea though so I am going to try!

For homework, we have to create the program, write on our daily blogs and get our tests signed. Wish me luck!

Test 2

Warning! Short blog entry

Today, was our second programming test! Mr.Arkin told us that it would be this week and when one of the students asked him if it was Monday, Mr.Arkin said maybe with an odd smile on his face so I already had a feeling it would be today which is why I studied extra hard last night. I found that the test was fairly easy! I did indeed make a few careless mistakes which I noticed later but I think I did pretty good. The test mostly centered around procedures and functions, which I am guessing is because we recently learned that. I was able to finish earlier than expected and got the chance to triple check my work since I had some spare time. Once we finished out tests, Mr.Arkin introduced some models for our culminating activity which were actually really cool! He gave us time until the end of the class, to just explore the ideas. I hope I do good on the test and that it will boost up my mark before exams and the culminating activity. Let's pray, guys!

Friday!!!!!!!!!!!

Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping.

~Bo Derek

It's Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whhhhhhhooooooooooohhhhhhhhooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! SShhhhhhhooooooooopppppppppppiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnggggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can probably guess how excited I am that the weekend is coming back! If you still do not understand yet, you can check out Mahak's blog to find out how bad my obsession is. You may ask why I am excited? Well, that is a very bad question to ask if you know me well enough. I am going Christmas shopping! It has been months since I have even gone into a mall. I miss the beautiful glistening of the windows, the sound of kids crying to buy toys (my brother), the shine of the mirrors and the fun of carrying heavy shopping bags and walking down the escalator like a supermodel. I will be off tomorrow to buy all of my presents for all my friends and Secret Santa presents. I am soooooo excited!
So, there isn't much to say about today's class, because all we did was work some more on our peer tutoring. I was able to get all of my doubts cleared up! Oh no, I have 200 seconds till the weekend! Gotta go!

                                                               *                *                 *

Hey, it is Saturday! So, as I was saying I did get a lot of my doubts cleared up thanks to Grace and Mahak. I am now able to study all of my notes in preparation for our upcoming programming test next week. I hope it is not too hard but I am still going to go prepared for the fun. For homework, we were just asked to all become level 4's and to get ready for our test next week. I think it would be good to get the test over with before we left for the break.

I am actually very busy today because I have a lot of homework I would like to get done but at the same time I also have to go shopping for my Christmas presents and go to a party tonight in honour of my brother's soccer team. I am leaving for the mall at around 2:00 so that I can come back in time to finish some homework and get ready for the party tonight. Alright I gotta go now to finish the rest of my homework. Bye!!!!!!

This will be how happy I will be on Saturday when I walk into the mall!

The power of peers

A successful person isn't necessarily better than her less successful peers at solving problems; her pattern-recognition facilities have just learned what problems are worth solving. "
- Ray Kurzweil

I just came back from International night which was actually very fun because the shows were fantastic. I really enjoyed it but since I came home late, I have less time to do homework.

Now onto ICS. Wow! I am caught up much more. Today, I learned a few things that I did not know before because of the power of peers. I am hoping to learn much more in the future. It was very interesting and actually refreshing to review all of our notes as a group so that we could all understand more and become 4's.

In class today, we started our peer tutoring straight when we entered the class. All of us were ready for a lesson when MrArkin asked us why we were not tutoring one another. Our group included Grace, Mahak and I. I was a level 3 and I still am a level 3 because we have not yet gotten to the part where I need help. We revised everything we learned in programming from the beginning so that Mahak too, could understand everything since she was lost after her trip to India. We also went through all of our programs that we didn't understand and needed help with. I was able to get some help in this department though.

I am looking forward to tomorrow's period. I am continuing to look through my notes and reviewing for a possible future test. I am excited for tomorrow as well because it happens to be Friday. One of my favorite days of the week. Ya!

I will understand!

"I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying."
- Oscar Wilde

Today, we dived deeper into the topics of functions. Most people were not able to finish all of the homework last night or even any of it because they did not understand the concept of functions. I was one of those people who did not completely understand it but did some what. I had completed my homework but they did not run successfully. Boohoo... We did a small overview of it and dug a little deeper though.

We also learned about how procedures work. As you know procedures perform a defined task while functions return a single value. We learned how this rule really does apply today in class. It is a lot like writing a function but at the same time it is very different. I hope to learn many more techniques to help me become a better programmer.

For homework, we were shown a model answer to the modified version of assignment 9 and we were asked to write what we believe is the function for one of the variables called nextConsonant. I am excited to know how it will work out. Yay!

Near, the end of the class, Mr.Arkin explained to us that we are going to form groups of three where everyone is at a different comprehension level of Computer Science. The task he asked us to do over the course of the week is to bring every one's understanding of Computer Science to the same level as everyone else. I am really excited because I am now going to get the opportunity to understand more instead of being the confused one all the time. In our group, we decided that tonight we would go through our notes and just note down what we found to be a little confusing so that we could get working for tomorrow. Wish me luck blog readers!

Most confusing lesson ever

"I'm not confused, I'm just well mixed"
- Robert Frost

I am sure that by looking at the title of my blog entry, you can guess that I am very confused my today's lesson. So many variables! So many sections! So complicated!

Today, we were asked by Mr.Arkin to write the algorithm for our substring assignment 11. The first time we did this, I did okay but I was not clear about the loops when I wrote it. Mr.Arkin asked us a second time to do it with the modified version of assignment 9 that we finished last night. I understood from writing the algorithm for assignment 11 so I was able to do this one with accuracy. Later, we learned some new ways to make our program look more like an algorithm. It was pretty cool! We learned how to use programmer defined- functions. I actually found the program as a whole to be confusing but I was able to understand how to write the functions and how they work. That part was pretty easy to understand.

For homework, we were asked to modify all of our assignments from #10-#24 (where we could) so that we include functions in our program. I still have to do so wish me all the luck1 I have a feeling I will need it. I hope to get that all done today along with my other homework because I came home pretty late so I don't have as much time to work. I hope all goes well! :-D

Back to old times!

Just living is not enough.  One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.
~Hans Christian Anderson

Mr.Arkin came back today! I actually missed our class lessons with Mr.Arkin.We had an early dismissal today so we were let out at 12:00. Which means that our periods were much shorter. Each period was I believe 35 minutes long. It seems pretty long but trust me when you are sitting in class, it seems like you just walked into the class.

Due to the short period of time for a lesson, Mr.Arkin started right away. We got into class and the first thing I heard was "Are you copying this down?" So, I got settled quickly and started copying down the notes on the projector. The note was on counted loops. Mr.Arkin used it in all of his substring assignments and wanted to explain to us how it works. It actually made our lives much easier! I understood how much of a help Mr.Arkin is. I could have had a much easier time with my assignments. As Mr.Arkin said "That's why they pay me the big bucks!" It was actually very interesting as to how the instructions to the computer can be so literal. We learned a few interesting new keywords and what they do.

Mr.Arkin later mentioned how we must be very careful with our spelling and grammar mistakes when we post things on the wikispaces discussion forum, on our websites and in our blog entries. Mr.Arkin especially mentioned my case where I wrote "teh" instead of "the" twice in one wikispaces entry. Sorry again! Until the end of the class, Mr.Arkin went through our substrings assignments, explaining each of them one by one showing model answers and why they are correct. He showed us new ways that we could do it and the counted loop would have came in handy if we had known it. We go up to substrings # 9 before the bell rang.

For homework Mr.Arkin asked us to modify assignment #9 so that it does the same thing for the constants instead of the vowels. It did look like it would take some thought but I was able to figure it after a while. I just need to put it into a program. Wish me luck!

No Studio 218

"I think that god wanted me to find him. Because there is no way that I was going to go that way."

- Our school Sears festival play
Aaron Kreifels (my part)

This relates to today. When I went shopping yesterday, I bought a Santa Claus CD with a whole bunch of music for the holidays. I brought that in today and it did not work on any of the computers because a lot of them either did not detect it or they did not have any speakers. So, there went my hope! But, finally Yasir's computer did both, detect it and had speakers. But, the people who did hear the music did not want to listen. So, I stopped. I am going to bring it in again next Studio 218 or the week after as it gets closer to Christmas and that way Mr.Arkin will also be here if I need help. Yay!

Mr.Arkin was not here today again. He sent us a message at around 2 in the morning and luckily, I checked my mail this morning so I was able to know in advance. He will be coming back hopefully on Monday.

Since, I had a lot of Studio 218 issues, I did not get a chance to work much on my assignments but luckily, I had already finished some extra assignments, so i am good to go. Mr.Arkin asked us to finish all of our assignments for Monday so that we are all ready to go. I am also progressing with my studying for the two tests which are the programming test next week and the substrings test on Monday or at least when Mr.Arkin gets back (hopefully Monday).

I am actually looking forward to the weekend to get some work done and I can't wait until the Christmas holidays because I am going on vacation but I am going to have a lot of work to do when I get back. Ahhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! I am guessing (not really) that I will be getting some more work over the holidays.

Another day

Warning: Short blog

As you may have noticed lately since Mr.Arkin is not here, we havn't had much to say since it is pretty much the same routine each day. Once again, today we worked on our substrings assignments. Since Mr.Arkin made it clear to us all that we have to have the first 15 substrings assignments done for tomorrow, many kids were working hard to get them done. Several students did not understand assignments so we all helped each other. I was glad to see how much teamwork was going on in the class. It was amazing! Most of the students were stuck at assignment 5 or 7. But, we all got through it. Yay! I understand now and I am ready for the test tomorrow. All I have to do is finish a few more assignment and study for the test tomorrow as my homework tonight. I do not have any other homework so I can focus on all of this. I am now going to STC to buy all my Christmas presents in a few minutes. Trust me, I will be coming home with a big bill! I have planned everything out so that we do not have to waste time looking for the stores and what I have to buy for who. I have a feeling though that I am not going to get a chance to go to all the places I need to because it is getting late. I am well prepared and ready to go!

Advance up ahead with substrings

Warning : Short blog!

There is not much to say because most of the class period, we were down stairs at the pep rally. It was actually, a day just like any this whole week because all we did this week including today was that we continued on our substrings assignments. I did get some more done this class with all my work.

I have found out today that we will be having a substrings quiz on Friday when does Mr.Arkin does get back. Sadly, he is not here tomorow either. He will be here Friday, ready to teach and get us going. I am hoping that all goes well with the test and that I am able to understand it. We havn't been taught anything specifically yet about substrings so I am hoping for it to all go well. I do understand it now but I am not done all of the assignments so I would like to finish some more so I understand the concept better. For homework, we have to continue or progress on our work with substrings. Wish me luck!

Another sad day

I'm a great believer in luck and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.

No Mr.Arkin again. Awww... Sadly, he will not be here tomorrow as well. I look forward to seeing him on Thursday and that he is feeling better.

In class, it was basically the same story. We got to our desks and started working on our substrings assignments right away. I was able to finish a lot more this class. I am also hoping to get some more done tonight so that I am on track and ahead on the train to success. I look forward to our lesson on substrings because it actually looks pretty easy but interesting. I was able to understand more of what the substrings page meant as I worked through my assignments. The page is really helping me out. I am also studying for the test every night to prepare myself.

Sorry blog readers, I have to go because tonight is my family's movie night so my dad is almost here with the movie and pizza so I have to go. We are watching the new Tom Cruis movie "Knight and Day". Bye!!!

Not much to say

Be a wonderful role model because you will be the window through which many children will see their future
Thomas Mckinnon

Today, there is not much to comment on because there was no lesson, no talking and no Mr.Arkin. It did not seem the same without him, of course.

Our class, was very organised which I am happy to say. Our class already knew what we had to do today with the guest teacher so we were ready to work. All we did the whole class, was start our work on our substrings assignments right when we walked into the class. We were asked to read the substrings information section on the touque.ca website and to start working on the assignments. There are so many! I don't know how I will finish. But, I know I will! I have hope! It took me a while to actually understand the concept of substrings so I did not get much done during class. But, I am going to try and get some of the work done tonight instead hopefully. .

I am at the library right now so as you may know the public library does not have the Turing program installed. So, I am going to have to wait to go home and start working. I am also studying (reviewing) my notes tonight to prepare myself for the test coming up this week. I hope all goes well with the test. I am going to try and study as much as I can and as hard as I can because I really would like to get a good mark for this programming test. I didn't do very good on the last test so I would like to do much better this time.

For homework, we are asked to continue or progress on the substrings assignment. Mr.Arkin told us that he may not be at school tomorrow, so he wanted us to respect the teacher once again. I am going to now go check the daily log and Mr.Arkin's blog so that I can start to get some info on what will be going on tomorrow. I am also going to start studying before I have to leave because I really love the library. It is just so quit here and I just love how it is a great environment. I would like to take advantage of this and study as much as I can here so good bye all my blog readers. Good night!

Show off your talent

A magician makes the visible invisible. A mime maks the invisble visible.

Sorry, my blog is late but I wasn't even at home yesterday so I did not get the chance to blog. But, I am home today to blog.

On Friday, as usual Studio 218 was the presented by the mime. We all heard the music ... that was going in our heads and the little kids outside playing at the playground. The sound of crying ... ahhhh ... how refreshing!!!

On Friday, we had a Turing show off where Mr.Arkin gave us the oppurtunity to show off any programs that we created that we thought was really cool. At first, nobody raised their hand up but later Andres raised his hand up and volunteered. While he got his program ready, Mr.Arkin showed us a cool program he created which is a game. It is kind of like hangman but much cooler. Personally, I really liked it. Mr.Arkin mentioned how our culmiative activity is like this where we have to create a game. For the rest of the class, we were given the oppurtunity to work on our assignments and making them better. I was able to polish all of my input assigments and print them out. Yay!

For homework, we have to clean up and catch up on all of our assignment which include every single one of assignments so that it's nice and clean. As well, we should start studying for our upcoming test next week. From what I have heard people are already starting so I should get going. Bye!

Success 101

"The person who gets the farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore."
-Dale Carnegie

As you may all know, Mahak and I are very good friends and according to Mahak we are in our first fight (no we're not, trust me, it is just her way of fun!). She isn't talking to me. I am really sad so I would like to keep it on the down low.

Today, we learned about the three skills of being successful programmers and how to achieve each of these skills or even improve them. I actually took the advice very seriously and I am going to use it to improve before our test next class and for the rest of the course and I have a feeling it will be helpful later as well with other courses.

We also looked at alternative ways to do repetition 8 so that it is easier to understand for both the programmer and the computer. Even by changing the order of the if statements, you can give the computer an easier time with processing the work. There were so many different alternative ways I didn't even notice. Wow!

For the rest of the period we were given more class time to catch- up and work on all of our assignments to get ourselves ready for the test next week. For homework, all we have to do is catch-up on all our work. I am about to go to the library so I have to go. I have been waiting for a while and bugging my mom so much to take us so I have to go. Oh no! She is putting on her shoes. Bye!!!!

Catch-up and polish

"The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of teh government in the next."

-Abraham Lincoln

Happy Birthday Mr.Arkin! I look forward to your other birthday ( the Cristian calendar one)!

Wow! We got out report cards today! I have an 83% average which is good enough for me. I am satisfied but I am going to try and improve as much as I can and work hard. I would like to improve for the semester report card because that is more important.

Today in class, we learned about arrays. It is really cool actually. They are not like the ones you learn about in math. They are like sub values stored under one name. So, you could have a hundred numbers stored under the name variable. We learned how to use that today, to know how it would help in creating a better receipt. I was confused at first but then I understood after Mr.Arkin got into more details!

For the rest of the class, we were given time to work on the computers. Mr.Arkin told us that we should have all of our assignments which includes input, selection and repetition fo Monday (or was it Friday?). We will be given class time for the whole week to work on it. I am looking forward to polishing all my work. This also happens to be our homework for tonight. At the end of the class, we learned about how to say "Happy Birthday Mr.Arkin" in Hibru. It was really cool! I actually caught onto it fast because it wasn't that hard. We also got lollipops in honour of Mr.Arkin's birthday!

Wish you a Happy Birthday Mr.Arkin! Have a good day everyone!

I am an independant worker!

"I abhor grades - if a child does his best, that's all that she be asked."

-Richard Dawson

Mr.Arkin posted up the marks for the printer comparison assignment today! I got two level 3's and two level 4's. I am proud even so that I got such a mark. It is pretty good! I was surprised and happy for Mahak because she recieved full marks for hers. Congrats! The period today was pretty much all work because at the beginning of the class, we just went over the test and Mr.Arkin gave us some pointers and tips from what he noticed during the marking process. After, that we just had a working period to work on repetition number 12 while Mr.Arkin called up some of us to discuss the modified repetition assignment 8 we handed in to him. For homework, we just need to finish repetition 12 which I already finished in class and some of the students such as myself were allowed to make changes to their modified assignment 8. I just need to make a few minor corrections. I sprained my finger today in gym and I can't even move it! Luckily, it is my left index finger which is better than if it were my right. It hurts like crazy so I do not wish to type too much today! Have a great day everyone!

Work as much as you can!

"If A equals success, then the formula is A equals X plus Y and Z, with X being work, Y play and Z keeping your mouth shut!"
-Albert Einstein

Did everyone have a good long weekend?

I had an okay one until Sunday. But, it's alright! We handed in our printer comparisson assignments today which is what I believe most of us were working on the entire long weekend. I am pretty satisfied with mine except that my links are kind of hard to read. I wonder if this goes for Term 1 or Term 2. Does anyone know?

We didn't do much in class today! On the fun part, Mahak and I spent a lot of the class singing Christmas carols even though it is not even December yet. We were still working effeciently though! I learned I need to keep my mouth shut like Einstein's quote because I probably would have been able to get more work done that way!

We walked in and Mr.Arkin asked us to hand in our modified repetition assignment 8. It is a good thing I had it printed out. Yay! Fiuff! (wiping off sweat) But, when I got home today and started working on my other assignments and I noticed an error. But, oh well, it has been done and there is nothing I can do because Mr.Arkin will be marking this assignment. Awwww....

The rest of the period was a work period where we were allowed to just work and catch-up. Our homework was to finish repetition assignments #9-#11 which I finished in class. Yay! This is exactly why I have almost no homework tonight except french which is okay because I took french extended. It is really easy now! But, somehow I'm obtaining only a 91 average. Awww...

Well, I am done almost all my homework so I am going to turn off soon. I have had a terrible day full of fright and anxiety which several of my friends understand what I am going through. I just want to go to sleep and get it all out of my head for a couple of hours.

Good day everyone!

This is going to be a long long weekend!

Weekends are a bit like rainbows; they look good from a distance but disappear when you get up close to them.
~John Shirley

(My new thing now is writing quotes!)

Wow! This quote explains so much about what is going on in my head right now! I was looking forward to this weekend for ages now because I wanted to accomplish so much and do so much work and get ahead of everyone but it's the day before the long weekend and the good has disapeared.

Today in class, we did a Questions Arising session but there were no questions at all. Wow! After, that Mr.Arkin explained to us how for the rest of the period we would mainly be on the computer and working. He said that he would call us in partners throughout the period to see what we were able to do last night for homework. But, I think that he forgot because he hasn't called anyone yet. He then assigned us a new HTML assignment which is what broke my heart. It is called "Printer comparisson". It looks like so much work to be accomplished over the weekend. I don't know how I will finish and when. I am hoping to do a lot tomorrow and finish at least half of my work so that I can finish the other half on Saturday. I am going to try and manage my time as wisely as I can. I want to do a lot this weekend and I have the ability to. Pray that nothing more wil come up from my other classes to make my weekend more time consuming. But, I guess that is what I.B is all about ( I don't blame you Mr.Arkin, you are just doing your job)! Our assignment is to compare which printer is best for a student that would need it for all four years of high school. This should be very interesting! Even though, I am dissapointed that I will be having a lot of work, I am still kind of excited to see how it goes. Yay!
Homework:
  • blog
  • repetition assignment 8- modified
  • printer comparison assignment
Mr.Arkin is starting to mark on Monday, so I must start right away! Have a good long weekend blog readers!

Champion!

"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will."
-Vincent T. Lombardi

Today I came out as a champion! Mr.Arkin asked us to trade our repetition assignment #6 with a partner. We had to do a code analysis and desk check our partners assignment. I corrected Mahak's and she did pretty good so I did not have much to correct. After we finished doing this, Mr.Arkin asked us to make a good copy of the assignment with all the changes. We had to print it out and keep it in our binder for future reference. We then could just fix up our assignments and continue our progress on the rest of our repetition assignments. I am proud of myself and I think that this quote represents the Computer Science period I had today very well. I had the will and determination to finish as much as I can and not have as mcuh homework because I have to study for a big test and I am feeling kind  of sick so I wanted to sleep early tonight.

I came out as a champion for finishing half of my homework. I would be done more but for number 8 I did it without the mod so I now have to change it and correct it. I am done number 7 but I need to do the modified version of it. Other than that I am done all my Computer homework. I am hoping to finish a lot tonight so I have to go! Bye blog readers! Have a good day!

What do you think?

Yes, we were asked today in class by Mr.Arkin what we think!

Today, in class, the first thing we were asked to do was to log on and come and take a sit. Once we did this, Mr.Arkin asked us to complete a survey. This survey was so that Mr.Arkin would get an idea of what we think about the class. On the survey we were asked to write what should be continued, stopped or start! I didn't have that many items in the stop section but I did have many in the "Continue" section.

After everyone was done, Mr.Arkin asked us to hand in any one of our homework assignments from last night. I picked to hand in number 3 since it was my best one. Mr.Arkin collected these and then marked them. After he marked it, he would call us to his desk and explain what we did wrong and asked us why we did certain things. He was helping us to fix each of our programs! Thank you!

The rest of the class, was a work period where we got time to fix all of our assignments and to finish some more repition assignment.

Our homework for tonight is to continue our progress on our repition assignments and do our daily blogs. I still have to do my homework so I have to go! Bye!

I will never say never!

Justin Beiber ( the one singer I dislike the most) and Jaden Smith for teh movie Karate Kid which I recently watched.

Gonna give everything I have,
It's my destiny.

I will never say never! (I will fight)
I will fight till forever! (make it right)
Whenever you knock me down,
I will not stay on the ground.
Pick it up,
Pick it up,
Pick it up,
Pick it up up up,
And never say never

That is exactly what I did today in class. This is actually one of the motto's that I like to follow in my life. I am hoping that I will be able to follow this all through my life. It is a very useful piece of advice.

Note: you may notice that I am using a lot more affects than I usually do because I just recently learned how to add all lof this in. Yay!

Shocked Kids who can't believe what they see!

Today, was the special day where we were able to see what our term 1 marks are going to be on the report. Mr.Arkin posted up the results this morning and that is why I was so happy because that way I would not have to go on through the day wondering what I got. Well guess what?..... I got a 75%. Yay! I thought I was going to get a much lower mark because of my programming test which I did not do so well on ( you can read my previous blog posts to see what I got). I was actually very surprised. Some of the students did pretty bad though, with their marks. The lowest mark was a 15%! It was shocking! But, yet several students did very good! Congratulations!!! I saw two people who recieved 98%. Keep up the good work to those students! I am hoping to improve for the semester reports.

At the beginning of the class, we went through the modified version of repition number 2. We then analyzed Mr.Arkin's version of the assignment and we just did it in our head. There was no need to write it down. For the rest of the class, we had the time to work on our homework and just catch-up. I am trying to catch-up and possibly finish it all because I have a lot of homework for tonight.

For homework, we have to do repetition assignments 3,4 and 5 and of course our daily blog. Well, I have to get back to work now so bye blog readers!

Repeat after me!

On Friday, we learned about repetition. It was very interesting on how easily we could make a mistake. We learned how crucial the placement of the exit statement is. Where you put the statement could change the entire program. Be very careful! Warning! Do not use an equal sign in a loop, this is very dangerous and you could be harmed in the process.

It was very interesting and I was surprised at how it all works. I hope that it gets even more interesting! That was what we did the entire period because that is how thorough of a study it happens to be. We have a lot of homework though after learning so much because we now know a lot about it. Our homework, is helping us understand the concept even more.

For homework, we have to modify one of the sample programs we did in class so that it asks the user for the starting value. We also have to start on our repition activities by doing numbers one and two. We have to modify them after so that they ask the user for the starting and ending value. This is going to be a long night because I also have my geo project to work on. Ahhhhhh! I was very busy this weekend and I did not have much time to work on a lot of my school work. I hope all goes well and wish me luck with the never ending homework pile. Seriously, it can never end! There is always something a person can do!

Rememberance day

This is a very sad rememberance day because our last living World War I veteran died. This is the first rememberance day after that. A moment of silence...
R.I.P to all those veterans who helped us have the life we have now in Canada.

Today, I am very sad after Computer's class. We got our tests back and luckily I did not fail because Mr.Arkin was very kind and gave me half marks for a lot of questions. Thank you! But even though I did not fail, I still got a bad mark. My mark was a 60.4%. I was very fortunaate to be in the 60's but after looking at my errors I can understand how all my careless mistakes made me get such a low mark. Before we got our tests back, we had time to go over the questions and review what the answers were on our own with a partner and later as a class. So, I know have an idea for future purposes. We also took up our mean assignments and I also have an idea about how that works now too. It is really interesting actually! I hope my super power autobiography boosts my report card mark up though and that they way the same or that the test ways less on our reports! Please!

For homework we have to do our daily blog as well as get our tests signed for tomorrow! I still have to do that because my mom is gone to her university class right now so I have to do it when she gets back. In the mean while I need to finish the rest of my homework. I have my geo culminative activity (yes, already!) and my french assignment which is due tomorrow! I look forward to Friday which is tomorrow!

Test!!!!!

Warning: Short blog!

I am sorry but this is going to be a very short blog entry because we did one thing this period that we worked very hard for the past few days...the test!!! I was really nervous that something I didn't know would come up or that I would blank out on the test but I found that the test was actually okay. It wasn't too hard but nor was it easy. It wasn't what I expected though, that's for sure. I just hope I do good! I know that I did the last questions wrong because I didnt use a case statement... I used an if ladder! But, I am pretty sure everything else was okay! I just hope I do good!!! I am praying because it is a big portion of our mid-term report and I worked very hard. That's it! We just did some silent reading after and for homework we just have to do our blog. Good luck everyone!

Test tomorrow! :- P

Ahhhhhhhhh! The test is tomorrow!

In class today, we had a questions and answers session to help us review for our test tomorrow! At first, there were almost no questions but after a while people came up with more and more questions. We have no more questions so all we have to do is study, study and study!

After, we took notes on two definitions which were for counter and accumulator. We were explained what this is and how it is used. Later,  we learned about the initialization section in a program and the use of it. It was similar to the initialization section in the ATM activity we did before. Mr.Arkin then asked us to create a simple program that asks for three numbers and ouputs the new mean after you ask for each number. It involves using the initialization section and we are to figure out how to do that tonight.

Our homework is to create the program, do our daily blog entry (of course?) and study for our test. I am going to study very hard for tomorrow's test. I am looking forward to seeing what Mr.Arkin's tests are like. Since it is our only test before the upcoming mid-term reports, I would like to do good on the test which is why I am really going to study hard. Come back tomorrow blog readers!

Oh I'm a gummy bear! Yes, I am a gummy bear !

What an interesting class!

We were asked to pick-up our posters as soon as we got into the class and today we presented it. We were the last group and therefore we didn't have that many points because the other groups had already said them. It was still a very good presentation though. We had many points compared to what a group would usually have at the end. That means that we noticed many that were not common to the eyes of others. What I loved the most was how Mr.Arkin first noticed our tree of wisdom doodle and my gummy bear quote. It was really funny! But, it wasn't much of a surprise since our poster was mainly doodles.

After this, we switched our programs from selection number 7 with a partner and corrected them using the features we came up with on the poster. It was like our guide to perfection! I corrected Bonnie's with the help of Mahak ( she still hasn't caught up yet because we havn't had time to gather and work on it). We found a few errors and Carol was able to find a couple that I never even knew had to be included. I knew them but I had the wrong meaning in mind. Now my program is much better organized!

Our homework is to do this for homework to all of our programs. We also have our first programming test coming up on Wednesday! Ahhhhh! I am really scared. I hope that what I study comes up on the test! I have been having some bad luck lately with that (specifically the DECA exam). I wish you all luck though!

Sorry, I have to go blog readers to go study for the test and do the rest of my homework.  But, come online tomorrow for more info on how our class went! Au revoir (French fro good-bye)!

Awesome Studio 218

Today, we had Studio 218 where Jerry brought in some music by Owl City. It was actually a very good choice of music and a lot of people sang along to one song...Fireflies! I was one of those people. But, once in a while, I would ruin it by singing the Gummy Bear song!

Today in class, as soon as we walked in all the students started to work on our assignments from yesterday and that is what we did for the rest of the class. Our group finished early half way through the class so for the rest of the time we were just doodling on our poster and making it pretty. The only other thing we did was that at the end of the class, Mr.Arkin asked us to copy many different Canadian ways of writing the date because when he checked the binders of students from the other class, they wrote it in the American way. I have to change mine. I am really lucky to have escaped! For homework, all we have to do is our daily blog which I happen to be doing now. I am now done my homework! Have a great weekend everyone and Happy Diwali for those who had it today (Hindu diwali was yesterday)! Our DECA oral examinations are tomorrow so wish me luck everyone and for everyone else participating in DECA!

Teamwork is the key to success!

Hello, blog readers! Today was an interesting class where we did a cool team assignment. We were given a program that Mr.Arkin created for selection assignment #6. It was actually really sophisticated. We were asked to desk check the program on a sheet of paper. This means to actually go through the entire process that the computer does when executing the program. It took a while but it was really fun. I had fun and it was interesting to see what the computer does. After, that we were given a 8 by 11 peice of paper to do some work on as a team. We were given a copy of the programming concepts that are on the touque website. Using this, we had to list all of the code features that were found in the program and how many times it came up. Such as keywords, main sections, constants, etc. So, for homework, we have to choose 3 of our most sophisticated programs and desk check it. Yay! I think it is going to take a while so I have to go! Bye!

Take your kids to work day!

Hey blog readers! Today was take your kids to work day! We did not have any class today so i am not particularlly sure if we have to do our blog but it is still always good to do your work.

I had one of the most tiring days of my life. As some of you may know, there was a water pipe that broke at Woodbine subway station. Therefore, since I was going downtown, i had to change to 4 different transportations. It was so tiring. I was 45 minutes late ( I think). Today, I went to my grandma's work place where I did some work for an organisation called, RNAO. It is an organisation for nurses. Since my mom is a part of the organisation it is good. I had a good time. I really liked the office. I just did some paper work for the morning that was actually very boring but I am happy I helped out. I had a great lunch at Swiss Chalet after though. I felt as though I was going to explode. That is how much I ate! It was delicious though! When I got back I worked at the recption for about 15 minutes and then left for the subway to meet my mom. I had to take the subway by myself after a while and it was really scary because I have never done it before. I had to rush to my DECA exam and I was late but the exam started late anyway. The exam had questions that were confusing but the test was okay. I got home at aroung 5:45 because I had to take the bus back home. I still have to do all of my homework now. Wish me luck!

A simple class on a late start day

It was George Boole's birthday today! Today we had a pretty regular class. At the beginning of class, I helped out Mahak a little more until Mr.Arkin started the lesson. Today, in class, we learned about case statements and how they work. It was actually very helpful. Yes, they require a lot of thought to be put into them but yet the are shorter and still perform the same thing. Mr.Arkin asked us to complete an activity that resembles what an ordinary ATM goes through to make transactions. We are to complete it and then also modify it so that it guards against negative numbers. I think that it is like guarding it against zero but just replacing it, asking it to guard against negatives instead. I still have to get started but I have a feeling I won't be doing it tonight since Mahak and I have our DECA examinations tomorrow at school in the library at 3. I am cramming because I still have to take some more notes and then study them. Tomorrow is take your kids to workday so I have to rush all the way from downtown back to the school. I will also have to wake-up early tomorrow so that I can get to the work place in time. I am going to an office building with my grandma (she is not old old). I am excited to go but I am scared for the DECA exam. I really want to win. I am prepared but need some more practice. Have fun everyone with take your kids to work day!

Catch-up Mahak!

Guys did you know that anyone or anything can love? I just watched a great movie (in Tamil) about this robot who fell in love with a girl and went bad just to get her. it was an awesome movie! It was like the story  line of King Kong. Keep this in thought.

Mahak is back! I am so happy! I am her guide to catching up. I hope she is able to catch up on all the work and learn quickly. She always was good with computer science though so I know she will do fine!

So, today in class, we started the class off by a "Questions and Answers" moment about our homework. For once, there were some questions! We did not take any notes this class though. After this, we spread out and tried to come up with the best solutions for our programs in groups. This way our peers were able to figure out what our errors were found in our programs and what we had to fix. At this time, I took the oppurtunity to help my long gone-come back friend Mahak who was totally confused after her trip to India for two weeks. When Mr.Arkin was talking to her about her trip, I was silently asking him in my head,  "Please pick me to help her!!!!! " It turns out that Mr.Arkin was able to hear my thoughts (shhhh...he can read minds).

So, during the rest of the period, I helped Mahak out to catch up. I gave her all of my notes and she is copying them tonight. I started explaining some of the notes and she seems to understand. We will have to see tomorrow! Mahak and I are going to come together at a different time to come up with a date to catch her up on it all. For homework, we just have to clean-up our work, preview selection II and do our daily blogs. Well, you can all hear from me tomorrow and I will be talking about Mahak for the next few days (no Lady Gaga singing this time though). :-D

A day without Mr.Arkin

Warning: Short blog

Mr.Arkin wasn't hear today...(tear drop). I miss him already. It just didn't feel right without him explaining our mistakes and helping us out. Especially, him making fun of Kevin everyday. Today was an interesting class. We had a full on work period where we were asked to clean up all of our glossaries so that they're ready for marking. Our homework is to finish up all of the selection assignments for Monday and of course do our blogs. We are also allowed to clean-up our websites over the weekend. Have a great weekend guys!

Programming catch-up and cleaning

We had a work period today where we just catched up on all of our assignments from programming. At the beginning of the class. Mr.Arkin handed us back our quiz which I got a level 4 on which is good. I did make a few minor mistakes but I still got a level 4. Yay! After that, all we did was pretty much work independantly. I caught up on my assignments with the help of Grace and Mr.Arkin who helped me find out why my programs wouldn't run (some of them). I am now completing selction assignment #8 (I think). I am going to try and finish as much as I can tonight. Mr.Arkin informed us that he will not be here tomorrow which means we have to be on our best behaviour. He already told us what we should be doing tomorrow which is to clean-up our websites which means they have to follow his marking page and be valid because he would like all the touque sites to be valid. I guess it is another work period. I wanted to do Studio 218 for tomorrow but I am unalel to make a playlist on youtube because I don't have an account. Even when I tried to, it said there was an error on the page even after I tried several times. Sorry! I hope we do Studio 218 tomorrow though. I am not sure we will be allowed since Mr.Arkin is not here tomorrow. Let's be on our best behaviour and make Mr.Arkin proud to have a class like us! Oh and I can't wait to see everyone's costumes tomorrow! Mine is a surprise!

Ahhhhhh!

Eieeieieie!!!! I am having so much trouble with the homework. I was so confused. Luckily, I was able to get my hands on Natasha who was a big help. I found it to be very confusing. I discovered that I was having trouble because I did not understand how to use "elsif" but I do now! Yay!

In class, we had a pop quiz! Yes, a pop quiz and this time we did not know. We got a different question than the other students from yesterday. We had to use what we learned in clas syesterday. I think I will get a good mark! But, I did not write part of it in cursive which I am hoping does not make me loose any marks nor did I write a comment at the beginning of each section.

We learned about boolean algebra and the truth tables which I found in the first case were a lot like multiplying positives and negatives. It was actually some what helpful. We also most importantly and helpful (for me) was that we learned about the " if ladders " and how to use "elsif". It was very helpful in figuring out how to do the rest of the selection assignments. I am still doing my homework and I have a lot more work to do so I  have to go. I have finished assignments 5 and 6 now I just need to do assignment 7, edit 5 and then print them. Bye!

Almost pop quiz!

I got new earphones for my i-pod! Finally!

Anyways, we were supposed to have a "pop" quiz today on input but then when we got to class, someone (not sure who) revealed that we already knew about the pop quiz. Therefore, Mr.Arkin cancelled the quiz. It might be tomorrow, so I am getting ready. We learned about boolean operators and how to work with selection. It was actually a lot easier than I thought. Who knew the computer was so smart? It was really cool. It was just like writing an actual command. Wow! I am still amazed! We got about 20 minutes at the end of the period to work on the first two selection assignments which in my opinion were actually fairly easy. Hmmm... I printed them out to in class. So, I am pretty much done all of my Computer Science homework. Yay! I am still going to work on the rest though. Or at least try. Sorry, but that is all for today. I still have to finish all of my french homework and my health homework which happens to be to make my mom happy, write what I did and then read a booklet that tells what we will be doing for this unit in health. Stay tuned!

What a class!

You all know how much I comment on how fast Mr. Arkin can teach us so much in such little time. Well. today is a very serious day when I actually mean it. It was like 3 lessons all in one! Usually we wouldn't do this much! So shall I cut to the chase and tell you?

Today the class, started off by some questions and answers about the input assignments. Surprisingly nobody raised up their hand. Since there was nothing at hand Mr. Arkin skipped right to the lesson where we learned about tracing the execution. You may ask whatever do you mean by tracing the execution? Well, this means ( I learned this in class) that it is when you think like the computer. You go though your program fragments and look at what the computer takes in from it not what you want the computer to do. We were asked to actually go through the process of what the computer actually goes through to give us our results. It was very intriguing! I never knew that it was so much work but yet so difficult (yes, I know I do not make sense sometimes). It's like when I say "I know but I don't know" but in this case it's "It's easy but hard". A lot of people don't notice but it is hard for the computer to go through all of this work. Later, on after this we traced the execution of a partners' program. My partner was Grace and I can see how the computer thinks.

We then learned a little about the characters that are used such as operators and even about boolean operators. I was actually very confused with that when I tried to do the selection section of assignments but now it seems very easy. Yah! After, that we had ten minutes to just start on our homework but it actually wasn't as long as you would think when you are actually working. Well, that is pretty much it so log in tomorrow to get some more info!

Catching up!

Hey, blog readers! How are your weekends? I am actually having a regular one so there isn't much to comment on. Now, back to business! There actually isn't much to say because we did mostly one thing the whole class. We finally had Studio 218, where Carol brought some Korean music which I actually liked alot. Thank you! I have a friend who likes K-pop so I have listened to K-pop before. Basically, we had free time to work on our input assignments. At the beginning of the class, we had to close our eyes and rate how well we understood the unit. We were to pick a number from one to four. I picked the number three because I understood the unit but I was not crystal clear yet. After, we did this Mr.Arkin called the people who rated one or two so that he could help them out by reviewing everything from the unit. The other students such as myself, were working on our input assignments and possibly continuing with the selection assignments. I was able to finish two input assignments in that time. So, that is pretty much it blog readers.....catch you on Monday!

Marks!

When a student especially an I.B student like myself, starts screaming in their head when they see the words "marks". By this phrase you can probably guess that, we got back our marks for our super power autobiography assignment today. Most, of the students were actually very dissapointed by the marks and thought that Mr.Arkin is a hard grader, but I feel that he is only being fair since I noticed that he deducted the marks fairly. I was one of the students that got a mark above the average and I was actually surprised at how high my marks were compared to a lot of the other students. I noticed that from our class, the highest mark was a 45 out of 50 which is actually really good since it is 90 percent. So congrats to that student!

A lot of the student were confused about why they got their mark, which is why Mr.Arkin explained to us for the rest of the class, how he marked us and what to look out for when we are making our webpages. There was a lot of criteria he marked us on which now I understand why it took him so long to mark the work. Actually, I made several careless mistakes that I am going to keep in mind and fix for the future. I did fairly good though with my assignment so I am grateful.

Mr.Arkin has warned us before hand that he does not have tests until he hands back our marks and now that he has, he may surprise us with a pop quiz. Ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! I am terrible with pop quizes which is why I am starting to study already. Yah! I will not be here tomorrow so I am going to have to check out everyone's blogs to figure out what happened, so everyone stay up to date please!!! I would really appreciate it and so would Grace since she is coming on the trip, too!

For homework we were simply asked to continue our progress with our input assignment, do our daily blog and just start to get ready for the pop quiz. You never know when it will be!!!! Oooooooooo.......

No board work!

Sorry, but this is a short blog entry compared to my recent ones. I guess it's because we had a short class and we only focused on one thing that took up the whole period.

That one thing that we focused on in class was yesterday's homework. Specifically, we focused on assignment 4 of the input assignment. I am guessing that it was difficult for some of the other students and I happened to be one of those students. I did every question up to question 5 last night except 4 because I found it a bit difficult. But, after today's class I understood how it works out! I am now going to work on it soon in a little while after I post this blog entry. In class we just worked in groups of four and came up with the best solution for the question. We then, wrote them on the board and compared our solutions to find which one was best. For homework, we were told to just clean up our input assignments so they are under control. I just finished doing assignments 7 and 8. They were actually fairly easy though. Since I didn't finish question 5 last night, I am going to do that now.

Ok, guys I got to go and do the rest of my homework. Bye!!!
Tune in tomorrow!

Falling down!

(song) You, you're falling down, the world starts spinning round. You, you're falling down, now which? look all around. You, you're falling down, and you know I'll be around. You're falling down, falling down,
(Falling down, you're falling down, falling down) (song)

We are falling back guys! Some how we fell back one lesson behind the other classes. That's not exactly good because that means we will be given a bigger homework load to catch up and we will have a tighter lesson. That is exactly what happened today in computer science class. We had to learn a lot in one period. But, I don't think some of the boys in our class, were able to concentrate and understand because they were too scared of a wasp that was in our class room. They were running more than the bee was flying! Yes, it was a big one but even I am terrified of bees and wasps and for some odd reason, I did not freak out. Hmmmm.... I am going to have to look into that!

We learned about input today!!!!!!! Yayyyy! What I have been waiting for!!!!!!!!!!!! It was really confusing though at first but then I understood how it all works out, when I did my homework. We talking about all of the major sections which we also happened to take notes on during the weekend. Some of the sections we learned about were the declaration, processing, output and input sections. It was really interesting to see how easy it is to create a program using Turing. Who knew Turing could do soooo much work for us? It's great! We talked about how to input data and then get an answer and that was really interesting how we could just type from the keyboard and it would take the data from the keyboard and use it.
For homework, we were given the job to complete our blog (of course) as well as to complete # 1-3 of the input assignment on the touque website. Mr. Arkin also kindly asked us if we could finish 4 and 5 (if we can) since we are behind. The other classes have already done this. I was really confused when I started my homework. I didn't know how to work it out but later I had some help especially from my class notes and I was able to do it. Yay!
Well, good luck everyone! Hope to see you at school understanding everything crystal clear! I know I am (well about the homework that is)!

Our asterisk border

Sorry, for the late posting. I know it is very late but I have been very busy lately. On, Friday I had a dance program right after school and it takes usually an hour to get ready so I had to rush home and be at the stadium at 6:00. It was very hard to make the time. You may ask what type of dance? Well, I don't know if you have heard of it but it is a traditional dance called Bharathanatyam. I have been learning since i was 6 years old. I have come far since then. On Saturday, I was studying the whole day for a dance exam which I did terrible on because I got very nervous. Basically, my whole weekend was busy with dance work. Yet, I still remembered what happened in class on Friday. It all rings many bells!

On Friday, we were supposed to have Studio 218 but nobody brought in any music. I guess everyone has been very busy lately with the week and nobody even looked at our wiki page for Studio 218. Our class was basically a copy and help period. We copied down some more definitions which include parameter and arguement, making our glossary even bigger. We were explained more about our homework and it was made very clear in my opinion. I had no idea there was so much behind Turing! For the rest of the class, we just helped other students catch up on their homework from Thursday night which was creating the asterisk border. I was one of those people who received help. I had created my border in 52 lines! That is a lot! So, with some help and ideas from the other students and I was able to get it down to (I believe) 10 lines which is a big improvement!

Luckily, we were not given a lot of homework which gave me a break this weekend. For homework, we had to review operators, documentation template and programming guideines. So, in my opinion we didn't do much on Friday. Okay, guys, I have to go, it is getting late! I am excited for tomorrow! Hope it will be a great work period!

Turing, Turing and more Turing!

Sorry my blog entry is very late today. I had a dance program that I went to. I came straight home after school, got ready, left the house, danced and came back home at 9:30. I am very tired! Luckily, I do not have that much homework tonight. Thank god! I just started working on all of my homework after eating my dinner and mini-donuts. They were good!

So today in computer science class, we did some more work on Turing. When we got to class, we were given a lesson on things that had to do with our homework after Mr.Arkin gave us some definitions to copy from the overhead. All of the information he gave us, was actually very helpful. Later, Mr.Arkin showed us a trick that occurs if you do not write your program fragments with the correct numbers and showed us how focus is very important when working with Turing. We were given a case where we asked the program to display 4 asterisks in each corner but, when we would run the program, there would only be two who were one above the other. We found a solution that we did not ay attention to when we did the activity which caused us to get a different result. You need to remember the things we learned before, to complete this. Later, after we finished this activity, Mr.Arkin gave us the assignment of making a border on our run window using asterisks. Mr. Arkin was able to do this in 10 program fragments while it took me 52 program fragments to get the border. We were given a chance to work on this in class!

For homework, we were asked to get dividers for our class, finish the border assignment, and review and take notes on “Variables” and “Input” on the touque.ca website. Luckily again, I finished the border assignment in class, so I am done with that! Now, for homework all I have to do is get the dividers (probably have to buy them) and take notes on the concepts he asked for.

Wish me good luck and the same back to you! I am excited to learn about input tomorrow!

Forgot!

To be honest, I kind of forgot what happened in class a little while ago and now I remember. I guess it's because we did not do much. Yay! Today in class, we wrote down a lot of definitions that had to do with last night's homework. I discovered some new peices of information and I was actually right but wrong on some parts of my theories from last night's homework. I now appreciate and understand the program better! Mr. Arkin asked us to copy the definitions on the overhead and then explained each of the definitions while we took notes. Since the definitions were related to our homework from last night, it was more as if he was explaining the homework which is how I learned a few new things. He later assigned us our homework and gave us the rest of the class to work on it which I found helpful.

For homework, Mr.Arkin assigned us a new assignment. He also asked us to copy the definition of sequence from the touque.ca website and we were asked to read the subdirectory "subprogramming". I finished both of these things during class though. But, I actually have extra homework because I did not know that we had to save our homework on Turing last night so now I have to do it again and save it this time. A lot of the kids in our class did not do this. I am also going to be taking some notes on some of the stuff on the touque.ca website under programming since I did not do that before.

So, wish me luck blog readers that I finish in time! I am trying to start all my homework and then watch T.V instead of the opposite since I always end up staying up late each night doing my homework. I am learning a lot from the I.B program already! Well, I hope everyone has luck! I am going to start now! Log in tomorrow for a chance to read more! We may even be starting input tomorrow by the looks of it!

A day back after a three weekend holiday!

Wow, what a long weekend! I know what I did this weekend wasn't much (I admit). I had planned so much and got none of it done. I had planned to get a lot of my school work done so I wouldn't have to do it later but I got distracted with other things. One of the things that distracted me was the T.V which happened to have so many cool shows coming on because it was long weekend. But, it's not like I can do anything now. Let's not speak of the past! I hope that you all had a good time though and did something useful over the long weekend.

Now for what happened today in class is that we took a lot of notes! There was alot of board work and work that we did on Turing. In class today, we just learned more about Turing. I found it to be very intriguing how the program can respond like that. It was sooooo cool! I like the new program that we will be using for this new unit that we just started on Thursady. It seems very interesting. I am hoping that it will get even more interesting as we move further in the unit. I have a feeling that I will be learning alot from Turing and that someday it may come in use to me, which is a good thing. The basic outline of the class lesson would be learning how to tell Turing to do a specific task and how the program works in general.

As for homework, Mr. Arkin has assigned us an assignment but I find that it is not really an assiggnment. It is more of a practice. It is supposed to help us understand how Turing works and how to use it. So, guys I am going to start it now. So, don't worry I will be blogging again tomorrow, so come and take a look here tomorrow! Looking forward to a new lesson tomorrow!

Party!!!

It was a party in 2-1-8! It was a great reward. Thank you Mr.Arkin for the fantastic reward. I know that all of us appreciate it, I know I did. I guess there isn't going to be much blogging for today due to the arty but, I can explain what happened. I really enjoyed the party, especially the food which was delicious....Ummmm!!!!! We helped serve the food to the students. There was a variety of tasty food and there was even some healthy foods. There was like 5 different types of chips, gummy worms (Halloween), organic chips with salsa, pineapple, cantalope, cookies and timbits. Sadly, there were no drinks, to help us wash all of these nutrients down. But, I still appreciae that our class brought in a lot of food. Thank you to all who brought in food. The rest of the class period, we just partied! You may ask what I mean by partied. Well, we had free time to go anywhere on the computer. Mahak and I went on Facebook and she showed me a whole bunch of cool things posted (I don't have Facebook). It was a very fun period that boosted our energy for the rest of the day since the class was in the morning. I am looking forward to more fun with our new unit starting on Tuesday! The party was worth all of our hard work in unit 1! Happy Thanksgiving everyone even though  I don't celebrate Thanksgiving!!!!!!

Thursday, October 7, 2010

So i throw my hands up, they're playing my song. The butterflies fly away. Nodding my head like yeah, moving my hips like yeah. ..Its a party in room 2-1-8!!! Yayayayaya it's a party in 218!!!

(It was Mahak's idea to add more to my title)
We got a party! Whoooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have finally all gotten a reward for all of our hardwork! We have gotten so far and i really appreciate the fact that Mr. Arkin is letting us have a party to celebrate. What he sadi is true... it has only been a month but we have already accomplished so much. We have our own websites. How many people do? I am really excited especially since we get to have alot of fun in the first period of the day, we get to listen to music and we can eat food. I am really looking forward to it. I have asked my mom to pick something up on her way home tonight for the party tomorrow so I don't know yet what i will be bringing so i won't be able to post it up on the wikispaces page. I will definitely try and bring somethign even if it is candy. I have not yet read the pages on programming for homework... i am doing that after this ( i have a lot of homework tonight!). It lookes interesting though. I have downloaded Turing though.
Now onto what actually happened in class. Not much actually. We started our first lesson in our new unit called Programming. The lesson was on flowcharts which was actually very interesting. We learned about two different types of flow charts and took some notes. Near the end of the period, we were introduced to a progrsm called Turing which we will be using during the unit. I learned alot and the program looks very interesting and it looks like it could really make our lives easier. Who knew? The one thing i was surprised at was that it went by soooooo fast! I hope that we will have alot of fun tomorrow with the party before teh weekend and that it will be a great reward ( not to jinx it!). So everybody try and bring some stuff in. Don't be selfish and eat other peoples food without sharing! You learnin kindergarten, " It's important to share!"

Oh my god

What a class! We learned so much in such little time. I swear Mr. Arkin has a talent in teaching fast.
Mahak says "Hey people, it's me, your girl Mahak here! Stop reading Arthi's fail blog and check out my awesome blog. :)"
I dont't agree guys. My blog is awesome. The only reason she can talk (well blog) is because I am doing my blog here at school. She is being very annoying actually and now she is going to start singing a terrible song (You and I tonight by Faber Drive). Eeeeeeiiiiyyyyyeee!!!! What ever will I do? So as I was saying, we learned so much this class. Alot of things are going by my wishes. Like this morning when I made it into The Sears Festival which is a drama competition and now like I wanted, we learned more about binary codes. we actually learned what each binary code represents. It was really cool though. We also got the chance to write down most of them on a sheet to help us do our homework which is to decode Mr. Arkin's blog. You should go visit it! The bell is going to ring soon so got to go! I will write back tonight!

                                          *                       *                     *
Back home! Sorry I was watching Karate Kid so I was kind of distracted and couldn't start my work earlier. By the way for those of you who havn't seen it ye, it is great! So as I was saying before, today's class was really cool. I really liked it since we learned something new. At first, if you were to learn this like we did today, you would have got lost. But, we were able to catch on fine. Most of us were able to. The key to being able to do this is patience and conecentration. Without these, you would take a whole day to figure this all out. Well, good luck everyone who is reading this and hope you have fun. Oh, and nice work on your glossaries for those that I checked out! I can see there was alot of effort put into it!
Good job!

Done!!!

More board work today. Wow! We are done (well I am)! I am done all of my homework at this point for Computer Science except I havn't found any of my pictures, and I have to find a few of them again since they are too big or too small. I am excited to find out what will be happening next class! I hope it's not another glossary because that would be a lot of glossaries. I have not had that much homework today which gives me a chance to work on my Computer Science homework which I believe is my only peice of homework. I really enjoyed the class lesson today. I learned a few new definition but the part that caught my attention the most was how Mr. Arkin had taught us about ASCII's codes and how they work. I found that it was alot like math and the lesson was like a math lesson. It was really cool! I wonder if we will get the chance to learn soem more tomorrow. Hmmmm...Some of the questions I have about the future are:
  1. What has Mr. Arkin planned for our class to do with the images we found?
  2. What is our next assignment?

Board work!!! :-)

Today was an interesting class. Most people would say that it was really boring since we didnt do much except for copy defintions of the board and overhead, but I thought that it wasn't that bad. It was actually really cool to learn some of these new definitions. I never knew that this whole time I thought the wrong definitions meant the wrong thing. I am so embarassed sometimes! I can see that we are getting closer to our glossary deadline where it will soon be time to have our glossary marked. It is a late start tomorrow so I have a feeling I will get some more done than I usually would have. I am one of those people who will have to wake up early anyway to take the bus but I will still have some spare time in between for some work. For tonight, I just need to work on updated my glossary, organizing it better, adding images and posting it up live on the web. I hope I can even get more than that done. But, it is kind of late and I havn't worked on any of my homework yet since I came home late and then came to the library where I am now writing my blog. My, goal for tomorrow is to be able to wrap up the glossary like Mr. Arkin said and then get it done. So, far I am not having any problems (knock, knock, knock), so I am hoping that it will stay that way. I still have to search up the definitions of the words that Mr. Arkin asked us to do. Have fun everyone and see you at school tomorrow. This is a long blog entry!

Sunday, October 3, 2010

There isn't much to say since we didnt do much in class. We didnt have Studio 218 today which was sad since I was really looking forward to it since Mahak was going to play her music. I was excited to see what music she had picked out! But, oh well, I get to wait for next week. We mostly did board work and came up wit more definitions to add to our glossary. It's getting bigger!!! In class when I tried to upload my glossary, it said that the host was unavailable and that there was some sort of error. Mr. Arkin told me to go home and check over the weekend and it ended it up working when I tried it today. There was some sort of security block on it when I did enter. It said something like the host being unknown and unfamiliar and if I still wanted to continue. When I clicked yes, it worked. Maybe that is why it wasn't working. Hmmm.... I did end up finded pictures for my glossary definitions, but not all of them. I will still work on it though, to find some more. I am excited about this glossary since it seems more advanced and different. Let's see how it goes tomorrow!

No class

There isn't much to blog about what happened in class because I missed almost 3/4 of the period because of my picture. I was only able to copy the last (I believe) 5 definitions. I did get the chance to get them from a friend and catch up though, so that I could finish the homework. But, I was surprised that we had to do another glossary. I thought that there is usually only one glossary but then again these are just assignments. I was able finish my skeleton for this assignment tonight and I was able to validate it which is all great news. The only problem I had tonight was that I was unable to upload my previous glossary because apprently the host is wrong. I wasn't here during class so I didn't get to upload it and I couldn't upload it last night because I was already asleep or off the computer by the time we got the messages. So, I am going to have to talk to Mr. Arkin about that tomorrow. I also like dropbox. it is very helpful but I still keep a copy of my work on my USB key. I think that's it! I hope this new glossary turns out good and I hope that I can get my files uploaded using Filezilla tomorrow. Please!!!

glossary due

Wow! What a stressful night. I was very panicked if I would finish in time since my references took a while. But, i ended up finishing in time, to discover that Firezilla is not working. There were so many complaints on wikispaces that it wasn't working for them. I also talked to some of my friends who told me it wasn't working either. By reading the protocols when i tried to login, it said that it is a private user and that anonymus users can not access this host. It told me that more than 300 users where unable to login. I think that maybe we are unable to use the host since we are uploading it from our computers at home. We will just have to see when we get to class tomorrow. I hope that we at least have some luck for tomorrow. Let's hope!

Work Period

Today was an interesting class. We had a whole period of work and i got a lot done. I was really able to use the class time usefully. I finished a lot of my work and i am almost done typing up all of  my informal definitions. I just need to get my formal ones done which is a great progress report compared to my previous assignment. I wonder when this is due? Hmmm...I am hoping to get a lot more done next work period and to learn a lot more with our class notes. I had time to work a little but not as much as usual since i was very busy this evening. Sorry! We didn't have any homework so I don't have an update on that but dropbox is very useful. I am so surprised at how much we have learned in such a small gap. Wow!

Starting a new assignment

Today, I was hoping to here some sort of news about our website assignments but Mr.Arkin hadn't said much about the assignment except for the fact that alot of people did not hand it in on time. I am hoping to hear about it soon though.
Today we started our next assignment but I founnd that it was fairly easy since we have already gotten used to the idea after our first assignment with the autobiography which was torture to get use to. I think that it will be much easier han all the trouble I had to go through for the first assignment. But, I am not exactly sure if it is actually an assignment or just work. Hmmmm.... I found that working with a partner to come up with the informal definitions because as they say two heads is better than one. This is true since with both the brain of myself and my partner, we were able to finish all of the informal definitions within the class period which is great news. I found some of my informal definitions on teh touque website, too. I did all of my homework and even the dropbox program looks very interesting and very helpful. I have downloaded it, and made my account, I'm just hoping that it is as great as it is said to be. I have to make a few more changes to my glossary and then I am good. YAH!

I am dne with the website

Wow, we are finally done with the website! I am very relaxed now that I am done with our websites. I was very pleased with the marks I received from my peer marker aswell. i am just waiting on Mr. Arkin's evaluation. i am hoping that i get a good mark from him, too. I spent alot of time to get the website done and i hope that all my hardwork pay off in the end. I am looking forward to the new assignments that we will be getting in ICS and I think that it will be fun. I really appreciated the time Mr.Arkin gave us in class yesterday. It was very helpful. I can't wait for my marks and I hope I am happy with them. Let's hope! And I'm even smiling at it with a red nose!

The website is due tomorrow

Wow! I can't believe that we are already here to the dealine. It seems like such little time but that we have learned sooo mcuh. I am very happy because i am on track again all because of my problem free week. I have everything validated, my autobiography done, images and links done and and so much more. The only thing I have left to do is to edit my page from grammer errors which I will try and do tomorrow morning before school and I also have to get a peer marking. Aswell, I need to check if I am missing anything on my webpage before I give it to my peer marker. I am actually happy that I have finished most of it already that way I won't have to panic tomorrow night. but, instead i can simply work on my other peices of homework or just relax. Oh, I also need to upload my final copy of my webpage beforeI leave class tomorrow since my firezilla at home does not open properly. I am much more relaxed now surprisingly than I was last week. I am excited and nervous to see the outcome of my website marks but, I am hoping I get a good mark. I love my website but, the one thing that disappoints me is that I couldn't make it look more professional since I had to put a white background so that the images would look properly integrated. Maybe I will get the chance to fix that tomorrow. But, it is better to have my images properly integrated and the background is not the only thing that makes it look professional. I hope that everything goes well with this assignment! Thank you so much to so many people especially God for helping me get through this. I couln't have done it without you! I had so much trouble and yet know I am here done and owning a great webpage.

Almost to the dead line

Wow! I finally got my webpage live onto the web which I was very happy about. I worked for around 3 hours today on my website  at home and I ended up writing a lot. Basically I run a super school which means that I had to write alot to provide enough information. It took time but it was worth it. I just really really hope that I get a good mark on this assignemnt since it is my first assignemnt for computer science. When I look back at the last two weeks of school that passed by it all seems worth it. At the beginning when I started my assignment, it was very difficult to understand and I was like a magnet towarsds trouble and problems. But, then I had finally started to progress starting this weekend and now at this moment the world makes sense again. I am just sooo happy about finally breaking through the ice. There were three things that had truly helped me get this far: God, Mr.Arkin and myself for not giving up. I have worked really hard on this autobiography assignment and I just hope that my webpage will look somewhat professional and that I will get a good mark from both my peer and Mr. Arkin. There are four things that I need to focus on for tomorrow:

  1. Making my CSS better
  2. Puting images onto my webpage and properly intergrating it
  3. Reviewing the marking scheme to make sure that my website follows it
  4. Getting my webpage peer marked
I believe that god will be with me and will reward me in the way that he thinks I deserve.

A calm day

Wow! I was very surprised by how calm our class was today. It didn't seem like Mr. Arkin came across many problems which means that we are all on the right track and getting going on this. YAH! I am very happy that I am also finally moving up ahead with my work. In class, I worked on one thing but yet had not succeeded due to problems. Sometimes I feel like I'm a magnet that attracts problems when it comes to Computer Science. My one goal for the morning was to get my website live on the web using Filezilla. I had alot of help from some great friends! But, the problem I came across was that when I dragged my folder, it said that it was successfully loaded but it didnt appear. I had thought that maybe I had put it into someone else's file but when I checked each folder I couldn't find mine. I really hope that I can fix it for at least next class. That way I can finish my autobiography and my website. I am hoping that I will make the deadline. But, I am not sure if the deadline is Thursday is the due date since he said that he would like to wrap things up by then. I am praying! Hmmm...

My website

I GOT MY WEBSITE VALIDATED FINALLY!!! I also got my assignment page validated, too. I am soooooooooooo happy. When it finally validated, I started jumping and dancing all around the house. I'm so happy because I have been trying for the past week to get my index.html validated but there was always some sort of conlict and now it finally worked. Mr. Arkin's tip about retyping the whole thing worked! It was alot of work but worth it. I am just so happy. All I need to do is put it live on the web! But, there is a problem with that too. I installed filezilla but it won't open. So, I will just have to upload it at school. Then, I can finally do everything else and I will be on the same track as everyone else! The amount of my happiness is unexplainable! The last day on Friday really helped me break through the ice.

During the last class, I think the character attributes Mr.Arkin showed us, will really help me later on through out making my website and organized too with the bullet points. I am really happy and looking forward to getting my page live on the web and doing more with my website. Thank you God and Mr. Arkin!

Why won't my document validate???

There isn't much to say about today's class. At the beginning of teh class, when Mr. Arkin taught us the keyboard keys that could make our jobs easier and faster when working on the computer, it did help. I beleive that Iwill be able to use these techniques. This period Iworked on fixing the errors on my page and then trying to validate my index.html. But. when I tried it still told me that I had 16 errors even though I had made corrections and followed the html template. I am hoping that Mr. Arkin can take a look at tomorrow and that way I can get it validated and on the web. I looked to see if i missed anything using the index.html of other students who did get their index.html's validated, but it was the exact same. When I tried again after. It said that it couldn't verify the document. It is really confusing right now. I just need to take care of this problem and it would be like the world made sense again and I could carry on with the rest of my work. I hope I get this solved so that I can get on with the rest of the website over the weekend and possibly finish my whole site. I am a very hopeful person!

Frustration!!! Stress!!! Confusion!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Uhhh, it all seems so much more frustrating. At the beginning of class, I was completly fine with it but once Mr.Arkin told us all of the possible errors that we could have, there were so many! It's almost like I have to do alot of it again. But, I only have a few more things to accomplish before I perfect my assignement. I couldn't validitate my webpage because it kept saying errors and when I changed them, they wouldn't change on the actual web page. Some of the stuff I still ned to do are:
  • do the autbiography
  • create a few more external and internal links
  • upload my webpage and put it live
  • link my autobiograph webpage to my index.html
  • +more
I am really worried because everything seems to be so confusing and I really want to understand this all. I am going to try and get some help at luck or after school if it is available sometime this week. I am praying that I will soon understand and get the hang of it all...
